Question:

What are the requirements to obtain a License in child psychology in the state of FL?

Answer:

The Board of Psychology is responsible for licensing and regulating psychologists, provisional psychologists and limited license psychologists in Florida. Licensure Requirements - The requirements you were licensed under must have been substantially equivalent or more stringent than Florida at the time you were licensed. The Board will make its determination based upon but not limited to the following.

  • Education
  • Supervision
  • Required exams

Although you are not required to use this method if licensed in another state, it is an option that may be used by someone who holds an active, valid license as a psychologist in another state, provided that when such license was secured, the requirements were substantially equivalent to or more stringent than those in Florida at that time.

If no Florida law existed at that time, then the requirements in the other state must have been substantially equivalent to or more stringent that those currently required by Florida Statutes. Please see section 490.006, F.S. The Board will also review your individual credentials to determine if you would have been eligible for licensure in Florida had you applied in Florida the same year that you were licensed in the other state.

If the program from which you graduated did not have APA accreditation at the time you graduated, or within three years after you graduated, you must provide a letter of the comparability of your program pursuant to rule 64B19-11.0035, F.A.C.
