Question:
What are our options for School (9th and 4th Grades) in 2010 if we live in Crestview? For instance, if we decide to live in Crestview but want our child to go to Niceville Schools, is that an option? If it is an option, is transportation available and is there some kind of AYS (at your school after school program)? What kind of transportation options are available if they stay after school for sports? Are we responsible for pick or is there an activities bus similar to the one that Tolson here at Ft Bragg runs?
Answer:
Okaloosa School District is a school district of choice. You can choose to go to any school in Okaloosa if there is room at that school. You must request a zoning waiver to attend a school in Niceville if you live in Crestview. Most of the schools in the Niceville area have plenty of room for growth and are currently accepting zoning waivers. Bluewater Elementary School is at capacity however. Eglin Elementary School is currently excepting zoning waivers and this school is within walking distance of the Youth Center that offers before and after school care.
Most of the elementary schools have a before and after school daycare program. Niceville High School is also taking zoning waivers. However, the activity bus does not run to Crestview. If a parent chooses to take their child to a school outside their zoned school, transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
