Question:

What are the laws like in Florida for homeschooling families? Also, what kinds of opportunities are available for homeschooled children in the area and in the local schools?

Answer:

Okaloosa County School District offers a Blended School program. In the 2010-11 school year, home education students may elect to attend one, two or three days a week to participate in classes that teach the Sunshine State Standards in Science/Physical Education one day, Language Arts/Social Science one day, and Math one day. These classes are typically held at alternative sites that are still on public school property. Florida also participates in the dual enrollment program. Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn college or vocational credit toward a postsecondary diploma, certificate, or degree at a Florida public institution that will also count as credit toward a high school diploma.
