The Humane Society and Adoption Center at PAWS (Fort Walton Beach)
Since 1957, the Humane Society has played a key role in the field of animal care and control in North Florida. The shelter was renamed Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and presently handles more than 7,000 animals annually. PAWS is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals. They offer refuge, medical care, nourishment and an opportunity for a second chance for life to unwanted animals in our community. Co-located in the shelter is the W.F. Thorne Spay & Neuter Clinic. This clinic was established in 1995 and its mission was chartered to prevent unwanted litters, educate the public on the rationale for altering their pets and to provide a low cost program of spay, neuter, and public health treatments for pets. In addition to spaying/neutering services, today, a variety of services are offered to include low-cost prevention vaccines and treatment medications and heartworm, feline leukemia, and feline AIDS testing.
